October 2024's Featured Sermon of the Month
In this month’s sermon, Pastor Jaime explored the theme of standing firm in a world hostile to the gospel, drawing on Matthew 10:16, where Jesus tells His disciples, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Pastor Jaime reminded us of the call to discernment, courage, and unwavering commitment to the truth of God’s word, even when faced with cultural opposition.
Faith that Stands Firm
Pastor Jaime began by explaining the importance of faith in navigating life’s challenges. He highlighted how Jesus’ words call us to remain grounded, noting that while faith doesn’t prevent us from facing difficulties, it empowers us to trust God through them. Just as Jesus sent His disciples out with faith, He sends us out today to share His message boldly.
“Some may try to change the gospel, but faith stands firm.”
Faith in God’s truth means holding fast to His teachings, even when society pushes us to compromise. Pastor Jaime explained that the gospel isn’t meant to be adjusted to fit cultural preferences but should be shared faithfully, with love and conviction.
Discernment and Wisdom
"The prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished." – Proverbs 22:3
Pastor Jaime spoke about the need for discernment, highlighting Jesus’ call to be “wise as serpents” in a world that can be antagonistic toward Christianity. He explained that discernment enables us to foresee challenges and remain prepared. Wisdom, he noted, often means avoiding unnecessary conflicts and focusing on sharing the gospel truthfully and lovingly.
Maintaining a Spirit of Grace
While scripture calls us to stand firm, Pastor Jaime emphasized the importance of doing so with a spirit of gentleness and grace, as Jesus modeled. He reminded us that while Jesus corrected falsehoods and spoke out against wrongdoing, He did so in a way that invited others to repentance and truth.
“We can share the truth boldly, but we must also share it with love.”
By balancing strength with humility, believers can serve as lights in a world that desperately needs the hope and love of Christ.
A Call to Stand on God’s Word
Bro. Jaime concluded by urging the congregation to ground their lives in God’s word and to decide, in advance, where they stand on core gospel truths. He emphasized that believers should not rely solely on others to shape their beliefs but should turn to scripture as the ultimate source of truth and guidance.
Call to Action
This sermon serves as a reminder of the strength and wisdom we gain from God’s word. As Pastor Jaime encouraged, let us stand firm in faith, discernment, and grace, unashamed of the gospel, as we bring its light to a world in need.
